Availability & 5. Access considerations - Rong
It is available for any people who have access to Internet and free of any operating system.
You can control the access to a free wiki by sharing the page with a group of people.
Educational wiki is free to set up.
PBwiki provides a list of tutorials with examples to guide instructors on how to add and use plugins, (e.g. calendar, photo slideshow, YouTube Videos, Chat Room, etc.)
PBwiki automatically saves every version of a page, which makes it easy for instructors to monitor students' performance in wiki.
The interface of PBwiki is friendly and intuitive, which makes it easy for a large group of people who has different levels of computer skills to collaborate.
The Visual Text Box Editor (see below) is consistent with MS Word text editor icons, which makes formating online documents easy. The key board shortcut can be used to save a page when editing. (ctrl + S)
Techinical help is available. Technical help can be reached either by email or PB wiki User Community.
It can be accessed anywhere in the world.
It's live and editable at any time. (pd6/15)
You can make the wiki public or private. No matter what you choose, a passwird is always required to edit the wiki, meaning onlya trusted group can make changes to the wiki. (pd6/15)
Whoever has the password to the wiki can edit it. The facilitator (Molly) controls who gets access to the wiki, but once the stipulated members log in, they can edit the wiki. (pd6/15) Am I the facilitator? That I did not know (molly)
It is an easy-to-use web page that multiple people can edit. (pd6/15)
Group members can collaborate - they can use PBwiki to do group work or each can create their own personal web page. (pd6/15)
If someone posts something that is inappropriate, you can always go back to an earlier version of the wiki. Because all versions of a page are kept, you can go back and forward in time very easily. You can also see who made each change. (pd6/15)
PBwiki can be used as an easy portfolio for learning and technology in the classroom. You can create an online slideshow to demo your work with one click. (pd6/15)
You can keep others informed - it's live and editable at any time. (pd6/15)
You can attach pictures or video clips. In fact you can attach any type of file to any page in your wiki. Just click the "Files" button. (pd6/15)
The data is safe. There is an hourly back-up and you can get 1-click back-ups right from your wiki. (pd6/15)

User- Rather Than Wiki-Centric
In addition, the new PBwiki 2.0 is much more user-centric. In contrast to the traditional model of the freely editable public wiki, organizations that use wikis for collaboration need a robust system of individual user accounts to maintain accountability and control. Rather than focusing on many different wikis, 2.0 lets the individual log into a single user account, and centralizes access to his or her various wikis.
Having never used a wiki before I am not exactly sure what that means. It sounds as if you can have one log in for multiple wikis. Anyone able to clarify? (molly)
Molly -- that is correct. For example, I am a member of several pbwikis, but all I need to do is log into pbwiki once to access them. (ktm)
Can set access for different people per page and per folder (molly)
Molly - if you want to switch with anyone, please let us know!
Kim will set up new pbwiki site due to concerns with ability to communicate using this wikidot.com tool. Kim is also available to help out other team members with their individual research — just let her know!
